In California, San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond stated that to date there has been a grand total of 6 deaths due to Covid-19 alone without any co-morbidities. That is out of a population of 3.3 million. To extrapolate this out to the population of the United States, this would be a grand total of 600 deaths due to Covid-19 alone. This is over a span of 4 months, which would work out to 1800 deaths a year nationwide. And for this we are destroying the economy and grossly compromising our way of life, perhaps for good.

One thing, I think, that a lot of people do not realize, is the data is 2 weeks old (the numbers today, are for 8 MAY).

For Georgia (started reopening on 24 APR), 819 new cases in 24 hours. And, that brings us up to 41,482 (nearly 9 K more cases in the past 15 days).

My county, jumped 30 cases since yesterday.

But, seriously! It took Asia over 5 months to battle this. And, they are still reporting some new cases (mainly travelers returning to their respective country). So, how in the hell, does the US, and other countries think, that they will have it licked in less than 2 months?

Y'all stay safe.

Even if you don't wear mask and other protection, respect those who do.

And, in case y'all did not this, a region of Northern China is BACK ON Lock-down!

https://www.express.co.uk/news/worl...est-Jilin-province-quarantine-COVID-19-update

And, for Georgia, nearly 3,000 NEW cases since my Friday post.

Now remember, these numbers are 12-14 day lag period. So, as you can see by the Red/White arrow, despite a couple of drops, the numbers are getting higher.

A clear indication that reopening (24 APR) was the wrong thing to do.

I know this is not a nice thing to write, and while I do hope that the people do not die, anyone out in public without a mask on, and maintaining social distancing, get very sick.

Actually that 2 cities on lockdown in northern China, as the linked news tells, have been through lockdown since May 13th. The new reported cases added up to 41 as I remember, like with 23 imported plus 18 infected. It's been 4 or 5 days without new case reported now so I think this small outbreak is under control. Hopefully with two more weeks the lockdown will be lifted.

By the way Jilin and Shulan city's lockdown isn't as harsh as that in Wuhan, and that news actually tells a few mistaken information. Like the people actually can still enter and leave the city, but test report and self-quarantine become mandatory when getting out. Residents are suggested to leave home only for essential matters, not forced.

I drove my wife to her school two weeks ago because of reopens and I stayed there for days. It is in rural district of my city. I kept my mask everytime I went out eating or shopping. I saw the local people are not wearing masks so I asked why, and got replies that they no longer took it seriously. Damn I really hope all these rural districts won't cause any trouble and stay alert.

Well, 2 days ago, was a sad day (actually 1 JUN was; today is my first time in checking the web site in 3 days).

Georgia typically shows 2 - 3 days of downward trend, followed by a jump (sometimes small, sometimes big).

But, for the period ending 1 JUN, we saw, not only our largest jump in Confirmed cases, but also a new Record high; from 341 cases, to 974 cases.

I don't trust those numbers for a second. A lot of countries are reporting deaths of people who were already terminal with other things. COVID19 simply accelerated their deaths. In Italy 99% of the people who died had underlying conditions. With each passing day it is looking like more and more of a sham.

Then, which sources can we trust? any suggestions?

We got over 100 new cases in Beijing recently. The alert level has been adjusted to highest as early Wuhan's. It started as one old man came to hospital suspecting himself infected, and confirmed positive later. He claimed he did not have any touch with possible source, so the central gov and everyone of us thought shit shis is fucked up serious, and immediate investigation was taken. The evidence shows high possibility that imported frozen fishes carry the virus. The bio sequence of this outbreak virus shows they belong to family mostly attacking europe. Fears aroused already seems the import business with Europe is going to shrink badly.

One state has more cases then all of Canada. That's gross incompetence

Not necessarily terminal... I lost a cousin the other day to COVID. Yes, she had a serious underlying medical condition that she was being treated for. But, if it weren't for COVID, she would still be alive today.

And, I have a friend who tested positive last week. Luckily, he is pretty healthy. So, he shouldn't have a problem.

And, the fact remains, regardless of the numbers, CV has wrecked economies, and has devastated millions of families.

I think you may have quoted the wrong post.

But, I think, you are also comparing Apples and Oranges. Canada covers 3.855 million sq mi (9.9 million sq km). And, has a total population (as of 2019) of 37.59 million people. Whereas California has 39.51 million people in an area of about 163.7 thousand sq mi (423.9 thousand sq km).

And, statistics show that when you have a lot of people in a small space, the chances of catching something increases exponentially.

But, to talk about incompetence, the governor of GA is allowing gatherings of under 50, not to worry about social distancing. But, if there is 50 or more, then you have to keep social distancing. Now, that is incompetence.

And, it is just not the governments lacking, it is the people, too. Especially those who feel that CV is a farce.

Hmm, I am not sure why the Worldwide report differs from local State reports. But, for the data ending 8 Jun, Georgia showed its first 4 figure New cases, 1,062 (previous high was 952 on 20 April). And, not the 1,600+ that the other web site shows.

I do not know if those of you outside the USA, or even on the East coast has heard, but because Arizona (went from about 20th to 9th in less than 10 days) is running rampant (not as bad as Florida (several days of 5 digit growth); went from 9th to 3th, in 4 days), Mexico has closed the boarder.

Hmm, I wonder if this will result in a reverse illegal immigration thing?

Now, Georgia just moved up to 9th spot. And, unfortunately, even our recent lows have been higher than our "Shelter in Place" highs.

And, for 3 months, I only knew of others who had knows someone who had died because of this. But, in the past 3 weeks, I have lost 2 relatives (1 had underlying medical issues; 1 was pretty healthy), and a friend, who was also healthy, and only 48!

So, for those of you who think this is a farce, go ahead and continue not taking even the most basic precautions. But, do not blame us if it bites you in the ass.

I read an interesting article where they explained that there wouldn't be 2nd Waves and 3rd Waves.
The idea of Waves indicated that eventually we would have the 'last wave' and we would be in the clear.

They went on to say that living with the threat of catching or passing on the virus was how we would live every day until there was a vaccine developed. If that takes another 6 months, a year, 2 or 6 years, this is how we would be living. Social distancing, masks, hand sanitizing, and more and more online services. Business that refused to change, to embrace this new way of doing business would surely fail.

Very interesting discussion.

I believe in this forecast. I find it frightening how dillettant the United States is currently dealing with the danger of the corona pandemic. I am glad that I live in Germany, although carefree is increasingly coming here. We have a very low target rate and one of the best health systems. Above all, everyone is covered by health insurance, so there is no unequal treatment as in the United States. But unfortunately, here too, considerations are again underway that thousands of people will again be allowed into football stadiums. In my view, that would be completely irresponsible as long as we don't have a vaccine. I am also sure that we will get a second wave again in winter.

Remember, guys.

Please leave the politics out of this Forum. Y'all want to discuss it, take it to PM. But, do not get pissed with the other(s), if he/they do not agree with you.

...

I do not know if y'all know this or not, but:

1) California has displaced New York in the #1 spot with nearly 459.000 cases

2) Florida is in 3rd with nearly 424,000 cases

3) Georgia (6 JUL saw 5,349 new cases) and Arizona are taking turns for 7th and 8th; nearly 169,000 and just over 162,000 cases, respectively. So, unless AZ has a HUGE jump in numbers, it will stay this way for a bit.

My county has over 44,000 people. But, my town accounts for 40% of the population. Yet, we have 62% of the cases.

I read an interesting article where they explained that there wouldn't be 2nd Waves and 3rd Waves...
Got a link to the article?

@Justudders
Like I mentioned in a previous post, one CANNOT compare ones country to the USA. You are literately talking apples and oranges.

Germany has 83.9 million people in 357,022 km² (137,847 sq mi). While the USA has 328.2 million people in 9.384 million km² (3.797 million sq mi).

You need to take 1 state that is close to your country. And, that state is, Idaho with 83.5 million people in 216,443 km² . Yet, their COVID cases are 18,177 compared to your 206,741.

Though, tbh, Idaho, and a few other states are doing better than most. Usually, the more people you have in a small area, the more likely viruses will spread quickly.

Then, you take these people who are not taking precautions, or think this is a hoax, just makes it worse.

I just decided not to go on vacation this year. They're gonna set up tests at the airport when you come back or plan to (maybe) put you into quarantine when you come back.

Like @Justudders said it's not that bad in Germany but all that social distancing and setting up more and more rules is a pain in the ass. It feels like you got to wear a muzzle.

Honestly I have my doubts that a vaccine will take care of it because a virus mutates from host to host. Don't get me wrong I'm not against vaccinations at all but it feels like all this shit is never ending.

Despite all that...all of you be safe and boob on

Well, Georgia is now over 252,220 cases. And, my county has over 550.

However, there may finally be some good news since this fiasco started.

Not only is the data nearly real-time (no 14 day lag for some reason anymore), but on 24 JUL, we peaked with 4,820 new cases. :emoji_cry:

And, from 8 AUG (4,409 cases) to 21 AUG (2,988 cases), the over all numbers are going down.

Unfortunately, I have lost contact with friends in Arizona, and California. Some have only been a few weeks. But, a couple of others, have been at least 2 months.
